King Kong Jitters
Peter Jackson has been one of, if not my favorite director for about ten years now. Five minutes ago, I just read that Colin Hanks is in KING KONG. For the first time ever, I got a flutter of doubt in my stomach.
He has carte blanch now, he certainly didn't "owe" casting Hanks to anyone. That can only mean he specifically went after Colin to cast. I can't imagine what Jackson saw in that particular industry legacy child to cast him in anything but a body cast.

Maybe he just thinks Colin Hanks would be the perfect victim for Kong? I know I'd like to see him get eaten. Or crushed.

I know exactly how you feel. I just found out not thirty-two seconds ago that both Sean Astin and Liv Tyler were BOTH in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and, as it turns out, Jake Busey was in The Frighteners (With the senior Astin! Don’t tell me THAT’S a coincidence.)! And, as things turn out, I find out just seventeen seconds ago that Kate Winslet (Heavenly Creatures) is a third generation actor!
So what, does Peter Jackson have some sort of hard-on for second-generation entertainers? He drops a hundred pounds and all of the sudden he can just go around casting Gump Jr.? What a fuckin’ sell-out!
I remember when I was a kid and my dad worked for the phone company. Every time my school bus would pass a telephone pole, my eyes would turn skyward. A couple of times, I even caught a glimpse of my dad! I know that it’s corn-ball, but there was something about my dad up on a telephone pole that I found to be cool. There was even a part of me that wanted to go to work at the phone company so that I could be like my old man. I can’t imagine why these so called “sons and daughters” would want to follow in the steps of their parents and emulate them, particularly when these so called “parents” are Tinsel-Town Royalty. FOOLS! Talentless humps!
I can certainly understand not being enthused or jazzed by the casting of Colin Hanks in a project you’re excited about, especially if Colin Hanks has never impressed you with a performance. I think you DO need reminded however, that we are talking about a movie centered around a giant gorilla that falls in love with a movie starlet. I don’t think Hanks should catalyze the “jitters”.
Fag.

As I said on the phone, and I should clarify for the other 2 readers of this blog; my issue is only partially with the legacy, but more with the questionable talent. I think Nicholas Cage is pretty deserving legacy. He's made bad movies lately, but he's also been very good. I also think Joss Whedon is a fantastic writer, I'd hate to think I wouldn't have gotten BUFFY if his folks hadn't paved the way. My beef is with unproven legacy, or proven SUCKY legacy getting consistent work.
